We all have our favourite smells. I like a candle that smells leather-y and tobacco-y. I prefer incense to be slightly church-y. I love a perfume that smells of old rose and a hand-cream that gives off a clean, reassuringly medicinal scent. Where does Teddy come on the sniff scale? In his natural state, sans mud, he’s not bad actually, although too many shampoos leave him smelling like a cheap, fruit-y bath bomb. Although the pong of apricot or mango may be an improvement on eau de dank dog, if the smell is overpowering to me, who knows how Teddy’s feeling with his super-sensitive dog’s nose?
Enter Aesop Animal. The smart Australian beauty brand has come up with a gentle pet shampoo that smells comfortingly herbal, of lemon rind, tea tree and spearmint. And then there’s the packaging. Most dog shampoos don’t come in good-looking vessels, but this simple, dark brown, apothecary-style bottle is one I wouldn’t mind leaving on display. It also has a pump dispenser – a simple detail but essential when your hands are full of squirming dog.
